Thank you for the video. My question is about the MEC. does this certificate 5876 replace the small cards wenow give to drivers?
Yes, if/when you use the new exam form, you MUST then use the new certificate and submit that information on the registry.
Thanks Larry for the excellent summary. I appreciate your taking the time to put this together. One comment question, the most common issue that I face is the elevated BP from caffeine or recent heavy alcohol use etc. I usually have them come back the next day. In your opinion, would we need to use the determination pending in that case. The second most common issue is the vision that does not correct to 20/40 or better, and the driver needs lenses or glasses, which usually takes a few days. Again does the Federal Motor Carrier association expect us to use the determination pending section in this circumstance. Thanks for your help. Best Larry Pohl MD MPH
Excellent examples of the situations where you would use the determination pending status. As I indicate in the video, we used to just set these charts aside unfinished and let the driver return in a few days/couple of weeks with the update. Now you must use “determination pending”, reported as such on the registry.
What is the intent of the box in the upper right hand corner of the privacy act form that says Medical Record # or sticker? Is it for the clinic medical record number?
Yes that is for your internal record keeping
